So over the holidays, I was told to read The Hunger Games because we studying it for English. As always, it was a great book but I became obsessed with the book and decided to read Catching Fire and Mockingjay too.
Right now, we are learning about subject and theme. This was a great book to pick up subjects such as power, love, courage, betrayal, identity. The way Suzanne Collins has incorporated so many different subjects into one book was very clever.
The Hunger Games is a best seller because it is equal to read for both girls and boys. The book warns us of the future, where the Capitol powers and controls all of the twelve districts. The protagonist; Katniss Everdeen volunteers as tribute after her younger sister Primrose is chosen and is to kill twenty-three other tributes. Their only option is to kill or be killed. The love triangle was cliche but I loved the action and speed of the novel. Collins made both girls and boys like Katniss. A girl who was good at hunting and also thought about others.
The constant suspense kept me turning page after page and I just could not stop reading. Of course you knew Katniss and Peeta were going to win together but the author kept you guessing how. Who knew Katniss was going to set the tracker-jackers on the Careers? Who knew there were going to be mutated werewolves?
The gamemakers obviously did.
Everyone has their own type of power.
It is very hard for books to just click into you, but this one did. If you haven't already read it, I definitely recommend it to any teenagers.
p.s may the odds be ever in your favour!
